Childbirth Education
MotherBaby Network offers BirthWorks® childbirth classes. Classes are appropriate for new parents and parents with prior birth experience including cesarean. Innovative and experiential in design, women gain confidence in giving birth and birth companions learn how to promote a positive birth experience. Classes are suitable for parents planning a hospital, birth center or home birth. Classes taught by Katharine Gallagher. Download a class outline.
Fall 2011 6-week session:
- Sept. 27 – Nov. 8: Tuesday evenings, 6:30 to 8:45 (no class Oct. 11)

- Beliefs and attitudes about pregnancy, birth & postpartum
- Safety of vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC)
- Physical and emotional aspects of labor and birth
- Physiology of birth
- Nutrition, exercise and pelvic body work
- Developing decision-making skills
- Choosing a birth team and writing a birth plan
- Physical and psychological interventions in birth
- Factors influencing the safety of birth
- Evidence-based information about medical interventions
- Ways to avoid unnecessary cesarean section
- Labor support and comfort measures
- Postpartum care, breastfeeding and infant nutrition
Six-week session cost: sliding scale $100 – $200 and / or barter combination accepted
No one will be turned away over ability to pay
